Blast from the Past: The Training That Shaped Glenn

Glenn Galea’s martial arts journey has been built on discipline, commitment, and a genuine hunger to keep learning. It began in 2019, when he first stepped onto the dojang floor under Sabum Nim Tom Baxter at P.U.M.A. ITF Chepstow in Wales. Those early years gave him a solid grounding in traditional ITF Taekwon-Do and showed the kind of consistency instructors look for.

Recognising that commitment, Sabum Nim Baxter encouraged Glenn to train directly under Master Ray Gayle, Chairman of the Professional Unification of Martial Arts (P.U.M.A.). The longer-term idea was clear: develop the technical depth and experience needed to one day establish an official P.U.M.A. ITF branch in Malta and help bring authentic ITF Taekwon-Do to the island.

Years of hard training followed. In 2023 Glenn was appointed to Black Tag — a recognition of his progress and his readiness to continue toward 1st Degree Black Belt. The five tenets of ITF Taekwon-Do — Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit — have shaped not only how he trains, but how he approaches life and work.

A blast from the past: London, 2022

Back in 2022, while still building that foundation, Glenn had the chance to train under Head Coach Michal Dziubicki (4th Dan) — a WAKO World Champion in kickboxing, a multiple European and World Taekwondo medallist, and former England National Team Coach.

Sessions took place across Stockwell, Kidbrooke, and Canada Water in London. The academy ran classes for beginners and advanced students, children’s sessions, women-only groups, private coaching, and corporate self-defence. It was a different environment from the ITF dojang, but the standards were high and the lessons stuck. That period remains one of the experiences that continue to influence how Glenn trains and teaches today.

(Those were also the days when he still had hair — a small reminder that the journey has already covered a few years.)

Looking ahead

Glenn remains focused on refining his skills and, in time, offering high-quality instruction in Malta. The aim is simple: give students of all ages and physical abilities a place to build confidence, discipline, respect, and resilience.

For him, martial arts has never been only about self-defence. It is a lifelong path of personal growth, leadership, and the quiet pursuit of excellence.
